rad flush
rad flush
well I've done alot of things with my truck, but i've yet to do a rad flush in any of my vehicles. the f-150 could definatly use one the coolent is looking kind of muddy. Whats involved in doing this and how long does it take. What do I have to buy to get the job done, and how much coolent does the whole system take to fill back up completely.
Beyond the aggravation, I'd go to a quick lube with a coolant flush machine. Usually, about $50 and the hook up to a drain and fill machine that uses the water pump to pump the old into a container and the new into the system. Works excellently, and gets about 98% of the fluid changed. And when you consider costs, coolant will run you $12, then you have to "properly" dispose of the leftover, which doesn't mean killing the neighbors damn dog (although insome cases it should) nad dirtyness, I'd just pay
I just did my truck a while ago.
I drained the radiator and removed the block drain on the left side of the block. do all this with the heater turned to the full hot. once the coolant was out i ran a hose and let it flush. i closed the drain and installed the plug and since it was muddy also i then put some quick flush in with water and ran it for 20 mins. i then drained and flushed it with the hose. Once it was as clean as i could get it, including the plastic tank i installed the plug and closed the drain valve. i then refilled with new coolant. depending on what engine you have it will hold up to 5 gallons.
Refill it slow and when full squeeze the top rad hose the get out the trapped air. run the engine till the thermostat opens then keep adding more coolant. keep checking the level for the next few trips
