The dipstick is at an angle when its in the tube and/or you could be dragging the back side of dipstick against the tube when you pull it out.

when you change the oil and filter next time. look at the level after running the engine for a minute and letting it sit for a couple. This is the level you should keep it at. give or take a MM or two.

Don't worry about it. So long as the oil level is between the two lines, you're fine.

I agree with lees99f150

My 1994 F150 4.9 L with 140k miles has NEVER been in the operating range! When I change the oil and add the specified six quarts the oil is well above the hatched area. The manual says this is normal. (Specifically it says the level will be at the "F" in the word Full which is about half the distance of the operating range above the hatched area.) During the next 3k miles it drops a little but never down into the operating (hatched) range.

Ultimately the marks on the dipstick are only a rough guide. I like something I saw on this board recently. "When you change the oil, leave out a quart. Run the engine to operating temperature, shut it off and give it a few minutes to drain down to the pan. Make sure you are parked on a level surface. Check the oil and mark the dip stick (maybe a ***** punch). Now add a quart and repeat the checking and marking procedure." These two marks are the true range.
