Hey i read about the gen 3 injectors on another post but i didnt get much info . i have a 97 5.4. is there a benifit to switch out mine gen 3 injectors or not ? and what year did they start using them ? i have an endless suplly of f 150 parts that i have access to. will somebody please help me out with my dellima
i am new here i do alot of reading here ,not much at voicein my opinion . i was wondering who is the go to guy on injectors and coil info .i have a 03 5.4 complete engine for parts and would like to know what to switch over to my 97 5.4 to help with power issue,s . my truck is adog it wont get out of its own way. it runs good but my 2000 expy 4.6 eats its lunch ,it has better throttle response and more seat of the pants power feel . any info would greatly be app. thanks.
Without getting into a lot of opinion, injector change in not going to wake up the old 5.4.
I would be looking first to make sure there are no issues with the motor, exhaust blockage, tuneup, codes etc. then consider an after market tuner.

well i have added a fipk k-n and a gibson si do exaust. i have no check engine lights ,2 new o2s faithful service ,mobil 1 syn , the truck runs like the day it was new but! it is a slug ! ithougt if i changed my inj ,coils and brougt a tune that would help the truck . i love the truck its just not fun to drive .97 150ex-cab lariat 4x4 .i forgot both my doors are cracked!
If everything is fine then my guess is the PCM program needs some help with a tuner and custom program changes.
The fuel is most likly on the rich side and ignition timing not very aggressive.
This is the way Ford decided to go in support there long term duribility reputation and is not the way we would like it to be. Hence the program change recommendation.

thanks man for the reply i was beging to think nobody wanted to help me out .like i said the truck is nice but its a stinking slug .i wish it would have the power that my 2000 4.6 expy 4x4 has . i do have a 03expy 5.4 complete engine . from the throttle body to the oilpan , it just has a low tone knock sounds like a rod maybe , it only has 41 thousand miles on it .maybe i will overhaul it and put in my 97 150.what do you think?
i noticed a good gain, no dyno numbers but my mpg has gone up 2mpg!! with gen 3's im the one just recently switched to gen 3's and 01+ depending have the new injectors.

thanks man ithink iam going to switch mine out. i also have allnew coils i am swiyching out . monday i am going to order an e- fan from tp, than get a tuner. i have to do something my buddies 99 1500gmc rapes me anytime we are messing around .i really hate to buy a new truck but i cant let the gmc keep raping me and his truck is all stock :o :o

well driving easy around town im gettin 20mpg!! which is a 3mpg increase
i just got my Efan on tonight and my tensioner pulley replaced so heh maybee ill get 21mpg city driving!! haha im so amaised. im ordering my Volant and SCT II next week and my new Accel coil packs and NGK iridiums in next week sometime.

u only need one fan. unless u wanna run duals to have a seperate one to run AC but that just creates extra alternator draw so therefore u will loose performance by going to dual fans.. theres a reason ford only uses single fans.. so why go duels when one fan is more then enough. so i got a fan and wiring harness and had to get a 190F temp switch from a 1983 mustang from autoparts store was about 10 bucks ill be posting pics tomorrow once i replace my thermostat.. its been stuck open a while:-p never noticed it lol. but ill get pics of the install tomorrow once i clean up the wiring
You might want to decode your axle ratios. The 5.4 may have a higher set of gears(lower numerical ratio). This would cause the truck to be doggy off the line and actually kill your fuel milage if you like to drive aggressively. Also check your GVWR. Lighter duty trucks don't lock up the converter as much as heavier duty trucks. This was a major problem with the old 5.0 and 5.8's. The 5.0's were much faster because the computer kept the converter loose which allowed the engine to tach up. The 5.8's were total dogs by comparison because of the early lockup. Try running around with the O/D turned off, and when the 5.4 starts to dog, pump the accelerator once, that should unlock the converter.

well the truck seems to shift into overdrive around 35-40 mph and after reading though some of the post, i think a tuner might fix that problem. which tuner can i get away with? i have any part i need to upgrade,off of almost any year of f150 from 97thru 2003, if i need it .thanks for all the help.maybe i will get to enjoy driving my truck, instead of just looking good driving it!
