Angry Problem with cleaning the IAC valve

I got a problem, on top of a problem,
I cleaned the IAC valve, and throttle body because the truck would fire on startup and then die ,and now i have a problem with the truck starting but not running right. When it starts, the idle is too low and begins fluctuating up and down between 400-600 rpms and drops more if I turn on the air conditioner.
When i did the cleaning I removed the throttle body along with the elbow in back, the IAC valve, and EGR valve. Removed the IAC and EGR to clean seperately but left the elbow and throttle body intact. gave it all a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner, reassembled, reinstalled.
The truck started perfectly, drove great and then the next morning it was raining and it idled like sh*%. Did I do something wrong by cleaning the EGR valve with the cleaner? I am at wits end., and would appreciate any help.

Brett

i read somewhere that cleaning the iac would temporarily fix the problem. I cleaned mine and same thing happen to me but after 3 days. I would recommend changing the IAC(45 dollars) and seeing if it fixes your problem. If it doesnt take it back; if it does keep it. Hope this helps

Do you have a vacuum leak? Did you put the gasket back between the IAC and the body?

Cleaning the IAC valve will work maybe 2 out of 10 times for a period of time worth the effort. There are two little valves in the older ones, I haven't even bothered trying to clean a new one. But to get longetevity out of it, you have to make sure you get both little valves clean. Cleaning one and not the other can cause it to stick open.

Alright guys,
I went ahead and changed it out just now. And it seems to be working perfectly. Everything is perfect. Thanks to all you who responded. From what I read I thought that cleaning it was supposed to work wonders, but now I wish I had just gone and replaced it and saved my self the headache.
Thanks again

The IAC was 42 bucks at auto zone, a heck of allot cheaper than what the dealer here wanted (90).

Thanks again

gives you goose bumps when you can help a fellow member out and a good feeling when you can hear the dealer give you a price to fix it and you can do it yourself in 1/2 time and 1/4 of the costs. I know when my o2 sensors went out they wanted 600 dollars to do two upstream. I did it myself in 35 mintues and cost me 80 bucks. I hope these dont go out on my 04' like they did in my 01'. Great job though.
