It's been discussed several times over in just about every forum here. In short, the dealer is supposed to disconnect the brake pressure deactivator switch on the master cylinder and secure the harness. The brake pressure switch can deteriorate internally, allowing brake fluid to pass through the switch and into the connector, which is hot at all times. This can short out and cause a fire. Replacement parts consisting of a revised brake pressure switch and a fused jumper harness that installs between the switch and the truck's harness are expected to be available sometime in November.

I bought my truck about a month and a half ago, and I think that the dealer that I bought the truck from, (it was the local Ford dealership), fixed the problem already.

From what I understand the latest recall doesn't replace the deactivation switch. It only adds a fused link. See link for details.

Johngs, my truck was included in the first round of recalls last spring. When they disconnect the deactivation switch your cruise control will not work. However once they get the replacement parts installed your cruise control will work fine.

If you want to know for sure, call up your dealer and give them your VIN, they can look it up in their computer and see if the truck has any outstanding recalls.

can i just pull the connector off the switch at the end of the master cylinder? will this affect the stop lights? obviously, with this switch disconnected, pressing the brake pedal won't cancel the cruise

With the switch disconnected, the cruise won't work. And no, it won't affect the brake lights none.

I just had mine done this past Thursday (Sept 29th) and long behold my cruise does not work anymore. So this recall fix permanently disables the cruise control?

IMO what a dumb recall fix. I would rather take the chance of it bursting into flames then have a standard option disabled on my truck.

The Second recall, like the first, had two procedures. The first procedure was to disconnect the brake deactivation switch and tape it up till the repair parts were in stock. This will cause your cruise to no longer function. The second procedure is to reconnect the switch with an improved harness adapter that will blow a fuse rather allow your truck to catch on fire. The deactivation switch is a redundant switch. In the event of a malfunction in the cruise control system including the brake pedal position switch you will naturally press harder on the brake pedal. This will increase the pressure in the master cylinder. The increase in pressure will trigger the deactivation switch in the master cylinder. This will open the circuit and deactivate the cruise control. It is this switch that is prone to leaking and subsequently causing the fires. If you still want to use your cruise control while waiting for the parts to come in then jump the connector and close the deactivation circuit. This bypasses the deactivation switch. Do so at your own peril.

I had mine fixed (totally fixed) about a month ago. Cruise control works just fine. The day that Ford announced the recall of the million + vehicles, I got a call from my service guy telling me to get my a** in there to get it fixed because my VIN was one of the ones on the hit list and he expected that their kits were going to go fast. He ran my VIN, scheduled me an appointment, and got me in the next day. Took about an hour from drop to paperwork, and they even ran my car through make ready.

I've noticed one thing - if you stick with the dealership and make some good contacts within (as I have ever since about 50K miles), they will treat you very very well.
