Head Gaskets
Head Gaskets
Hey all,
While driving to the Outer Banks N.C. friday night, my 99 ext. cab 5.4L began missing. I pulled into a gas station thinking I killed a coil pack. While pulling coil plugs the truck started to steam excessively out the left bank. ( true duals, not H-pipe) Immediately after the left side the right side started. Fearing the worst I shut the truck down, pulled off oil filler cap and revealed that my oil was now a milkshake.... Knowing now that it blew both head gaskets, I had it towed home. My question is: I just ran out of extended warranty 3500 miles ago. (89,595) Has anyone fought the Dealer to replace anything like this, and does anyone think it would be worthwhile, or a waste of time? I have done my own maintenance since I have owned the truck, minus the dealer replacing the rear end. I can replace the head gaskets myself, but would rather not and don't wanna spend $1500 for someone else to do it. I know there are TSBs about the head gasket oil leak, but I dont really feel like that is a leg to stand on. Any advice or approach angles will be greatly appreciated....

NO way the dealers going to fix this for free
Fix it yourself and flush that engine out good before you finally put in the oil you want to run. You think your lower end recieved any damage from the diluted oil??

I think that the bottom end is fine. I checked the dipstick and the oil still looked normal. I believe that I got to it before it got back to the crankcase. Yeah, I figured that they would not fix it for free, but maybe contribute a little. I guess I'll just start tearing it down. Thanks for the advice and I'll take pictures...
