6.0 liter Powerstroke? An act of God...the 6.0 is a packaging nightmare in a Super Duty; just take the front fenders, hood, grill, all that off, drop the 6.0 in, wire it up somehow, and drive it around with no body panels on it.

Man, I was planning on putting a 6.8L in mine... But I'll more than likely go with a Lightning.

good luck! They are much bigger and WEIGH a ton! You would have to beef up the front end ALOT to handle that extra weight. It would be nice if they (MFG's) would offer a Diesel in the 1/2 arena.

Quintin is right about the packaging nightmare that the engine alone will provide you. But there's more. You're also going to have to figure out how to add the transmission, rear end and brakes to handle the extra weight and torque. By the time you get through doing it, you'll be broke. At least you won't be able to sell the truck to anybody for anything close to what you'll have into it. Good luck!

A LOT of money, and it just won't be easy.

The 6.8L V10 I can see, as it isn't too much bigger than the 5.4, but the 6.0 or 7.3 are just so heavy and beefy that you would be doing a lot just to put it in, not even to get it running well.

My 2005 F150 came wiith a 4.2 V6. I want at least a 5.4 V8, I'd settle for a 4.6 V8, But I am really considering putting a Lightning in there, do you think it would be able to handle a 5.4 or a Lightning with stock suspension and brakes, I know I'm going to have to put a new tranny in to match the engine. My question is really, Would a 5.4 weigh a lot more than the 4.2?

Thats a very general (therefore incorrect) statement...many a modded lightning make over 400HP, and quite a few are over 500 or much more.

Now I dont know the stock HP on the V10...but I find it hard to believe a stock engine is making over 400 or 500 HP.

The suspension is the same on the 4.2 trucks vs. the 5.4 trucks (assuming both are 4x4 or 4x2). So theres no reason you cant swap.

Not sure what tranny they are putting into the '05s now...thats one of the main things I would look into if I were you. Suspension/brakes will be fine.

Also note that all 5.4L AND lightning trucks come with 9.75 rear ends and the 4.2 and 4.6L trucks come with 8.8 rear ends. So if you did the swap from a 6 banger to a Lightning supercharged 5.4, you would need to change the rear end too.

Even though they use a larger rear behind the 5.4 doesn't mean that the 8.8 isn't strong. In fact the old lightnings which people modify to the limits use the 8.8. Just put a good limited slip in and it will be good.

Revised 6.8-liter Triton V10 produces 355 hp at 4,750 rpm and 455 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,250 rpm, both class-leading figures.

lightning has 380 HP and 450 tq which puts down 338HP stock

i just proved myself wrong. but i was missinformed from other forums sayin the new 3v v10 made around 426HP.

6.0L in a 1/2.........? HAHA, great thought, bad Idea. If you want a diesel, it would be cheaper to buy a superduty. Your, engine. tranny, rear, entire fuel system (including tank, pump, fuel rails, injectors, pcm, regualtor, and figure out a way to rig an injector pump in the equation) not to mention, the IFS fronts in the F150 will NEVER have the ability to hold a 1,000 lbs diesel. So, you would have to find a solid axle (dana 44 or bigger) cut the IFS crap out, put in coil springs or leaf springs, cut out the center crossmember and control arm mounts ( to clear substantially taller motor) cuts parts of the firewall, change entire cooling system, change gauge cluster, shifter cable, a.c. and accesory location, and then pray that the motor will fit. After all that is done, you could buy a superduty cash. I already looked into it, about 2 months ago.. I wish you luck, I didnt have the ***** to try......
