IAC Location???

I have seen pics of different engines where the IAC is attached to the driver side of the throttle-body. My IAC is behind my throttle body, underneath the firewall and attachedto the intake plenum, making it very difficult to access. Why is it back there, and is there any way to clean it without removing it?

No, You have to unscrew it, and clean it/replace it. I had to do mine at about 60K Miles. It wasn't very hard to get off, It's nice if you have a longneck screwdriver. At the time, I didn't know you could just clean it, so I replaced it and it took about 30 Mins.

Hope this helped. Peace

The pictures you saw with the IAC on the side of the intake were froma 4.6L engine. All the 5.4L engines have them on the back.

Okay, thanks guys. I have to remove the S/C plumbing, PITA. Oh well hopefully it will help my idle problems... Oh and flare, I have 63000 on mine right now so I guess this is common around 60k mi, and thanks for the compliment

pull the IAC hose off while idling and spray some throttle body or carb cleaner in it.. it will flow through there and clean it out.. ive done it to mine couple times when i didnt feel like pullin it off. but if the engine dies its just cause its over fuel'd and it will start back up

If you clean it, you might get a couple more months of life out of it, or you could just go ahead and do it right the first time and replace it. Then you won't ahve to take it apart again later.

IAC hose? There is no hose going to the IAC, just the wires.

Apparently.
I've taken that TB apart, there is no hose going to the IAC.
So yes, please explain what you are talking about.
