Serpentine Belt size problem
Serpentine Belt size problem
Has anyone had this problem?: I went and bought the "correct" belt for my 97' 4.6l w/ac f150 which is the Goodyear 4080990. I removed the factory belt no problem. I try to put the new Goodyear belt on in its place and it is too small. It will not fit even with the tension pulley pulled all the way over to its limit. It is seated properly everywhere. In looking at the two belts, there is a good 1" or more size difference. From looking at the part number above, I would assume I have bought the 99" belt. Do they make a longer belt for this truck? It is the recommended belt from Goodyear. Did I get a factory defect? a 98" belt labeled as a 99"? Any ideas? Anyone seen this before? I have not had a chance to return it to Autozone yet. They might have a clue.
it is a pain to do my 01 took me almsot an hour to figure out and i used the same belt. cant remember the true combination i used to get it on but i think the last pulley i slid it on wa sthe altenator but i not sure but i can tell you the 990 is the right belt.
For some reason both Goodyear and Gates show the 1999 F 150 4.2 L V-6 without air conditioning using a much shorter belt. Both called for around an 83.5 inch belt. Mine measured 97 inches so it's a good idea to take it along when you go to buy a new one.
