Smoking at start-up

I have a 2003 SCrew w/ a 4.6 engine. When it sits for a few days (2-3), it smokes on start-up (blue smoke); when it sits for a week, it smokes a lot at start-up. Any idea what causes this and what will fix it. Truck has 57K miles and an extended warranty, so I want to get it taken care of while still under warranty and before it gets any worse. Appreciate any help ya'll can offer.

If you still have the warranty on it, take it in - you've got nothing to lose. Just make sure you let us all know what it is when they fix it If it's the truck that you drive the most (and listed as such on your insurance policy), your insurance should pay at least 20 bucks a day for a rental car and you'd get the rental car rate anyway.

I suspect there is a lot of good information to be found with a search. This problems happens often. I did a quick search and found this thread which may be helpful.

A friend of mine (DaWG of Indpls) had the same problem. He cured it with Seafoam in the crankcase.

Update

Talked with a service rep at my local dealer; he didn't seem surprised at all by it. Told me to bring it on in and they'd take care of it. Will let you know what comes of it.
