5.4L engine problem

I just filled my 99 f-150 with gas yesterday and it was working fine until I got home. When I was going to school this morning, it started but then died, if I give it just a little gas it iddles fine but when I let go it dies again. Has anyone had this problem before or does someone have an idea of what might be wrong? thanks

Given only the information you have provided, I would say it is the Idle Air Control or Idle Speed Control (whatever Ford calls it on your vehicle).

replace fuel filter and pump your tank with the way gas is quality is suffering so alot more sand then usualy is being pumped in. so get an old water hose out and drain the tank. easy hint is cut a slit in the water hose and take air hose and blow in it it will create a vacume and suck the fuel out... will only take a second so be cautious but its easier then sucking on the water hose... if not then pull the fuel line off the fuel filter and turn the key to on position which will turn the fuel pump on and u can drain the tank tha way.

I would say the IAC (Idle Air Control). My wifes expedition did that exact thing. Whens the last time your trottle body was cleaned? You may be able to clean the TB and get by esle you will need to replace it. Fuel filter is always a good thing to change as well and is cheap.

I have never cleaned the TB, its just a weird thing that one day it was working fine and the next doesn't even start. I changed the fuel filter about 3 months ago. When I started it about 30 min. ago it started but it iddles at really low rpms(about 500 and when I shift in Reverse it goes to 400) is there a way to adjust how the engine iddles.
and again where is the IAC located.

grn_f150,
This picture shows the IAC, its just to the right top of the TB. In this picture it looks like a small cannon with the barrel pointed towards you.

This is an easy fix, just unbolts and bolts back on. Others have had this problem. Mine got debree stuck in it and the idle went high. I replaced it and no more problems.

Wow yours is easy to get to. Mine is all the way in back. Almost as hard as a spark plug.
