When is it time??
When is it time??
I have had my 97 for ~9 years and have yet to change the plugs, wires, battery, rear brakes. I have had no problem with amny of these items but when should one change out these things??. The truck runs well but there must be a limit. The truck had 2 miles on it when i bought it and now has just a tad over 150,000 miles.
I cant beleive all of that has lasted. I would definatly change the plugs and wires and give it a full tune up, as far as the brakes I don't know, but I figure you will be due for a battery soon. Good luck.
I am thinking i will do a tune up and maybe back brakes soon. brakes look good though. he is my truck it still looks good for a june 96 model.
Here is my June 1996 model

I changed the plugs and wires at approx. 100,000 miles and just changed the battery day before yesterday with 185,000 and some change miles on the clock. The battery has been corroding for a couple years and I kept cleaning the terminals. About a week ago, I was sleeping in my truck at work and ran the battery dead and had to get a jump and since than the truck would struggle to start so I decided that it was time for a new one. As far as brakes go, I am not sure, I bought the truck with 93,000 miles and never really asked the p.o. about them, I changed the plugs and wires cause they came with the truck, if not for that, I may just be changing them now too.

Obviously i have inspected them as has NYS. Why should the brakes be done at 40,000, i inspected them and they passed NYS inspection and they are fine. Should i really replace them if they are not bad???. A tune up is next but i hesitate to do it when it runs so well??. It does not miss, rough idle is not a problem, battery i'll just wait it out, its a stick so if it dies i can just give it a quick shove and i'm off. mmmm dilemmas Well thanks for the tips and when i do get a tune up i will post whjat the plugs look like after well over 150,000

I would go ahead and change the plugs and wires. You very well could get some performance back as well. 150k is a lot longer than they were intended to be run for. Also I would not be worried about a plug and wire change causing any problems (as long as it's done right). If anything you could always pull a plug or two and see what they look like.
I would not worry about the brakes. Unlike some other things, you can actually measure them fairly easily and determine when they need to be changed.
You might consider changing the O2 sensors...

I changbed the plugs and wires on my Jul/Aug 97 @ 85,000 and the battery FINALLY died a months ago and only after the truck saw irregular use for the last year AND I let it sit a few months w/o turning over. That's the second battery in an f-150 that I've had that made it damn near 10 years. The other was in my 85
I'd seriously think about selling it.
This is the best vehichle I have ever had until about 150,000. Then at 155,000 it was a quick $7500 in repairs. You name it went wrong.
There is a limit. You're there.
