When is it time??
Lets see....
Bad miss in the engine. By the time it was properly diagnosed and fixed $650. Then about 1,000 miles later lost multiple seals on the engine and had some water in the crankcase... Not knowing how much damage was done and based on the repair estimates for what was known to be wrong I went with a rebuilt .. Transmission was starting to act up so at the same time had the torque converter and and a pump replaced (2-3) I believe.. That was about $5000. About 1000 miles later I lost the A/C also. Had no work done on the A/C in 6 1/2 years but everything needed replacement $1300. Add the typical sepentine belt $90.....Then another 1500 miles and lost the pinion seal. OKOK This was my stupidity for tailgating a moving truck as I was driving accross the dessert in New Mexico doing just under 100 MPH and a truck tread flew out at me. Pinion seal, flange, ujoint including the expensive differential fluid (Which I had also just previously changed) and we're talking about another $700. I think I'm past $7500 by now if you're counting.
Of course earlier in the life of the truck I had the known IMRC replaced $750. And we can't forget those lower ball joints $450.
More recently the rear sliding window frame crack.
I think that about covers it for repairs.
I can't wait for all the window and door lock repairs. I'm starting to see signs of electrical problems but they are still hanging in there.
If you haven't stuck a nickel into the vehicle I would suggest that it would be cheaper to sell or trade in now.

Unfortunately I was living in Phoenix when the A/C went out. You know... lots of low temps in the 90's (I was there during summer). No A/C is not a luxury during summer. Kind of like heat not being a luxury in Wisconsin during winter.
Due to this website, I have not seen a dealer in awhile and I will also never sell my 97 5 speed. Just continue with your preventative maintenance and deal with the problems as they arise.
Maybe change the plugs, just to see if you get some power back.
