Truck died while driving and will not restart

Can someone please help me..... I was driving my 1991 ford f150 at about 40 miles an hour the other day when the engine quit and now it won't start. It sounds like it wants to start but won't. I was hoping someone could help.

Do a search on ignition modules, the one's that are integral with the distributor are notorious for suddenly dying leaving you stranded. They tend(in my opinion) to get too hot and end up frying the chip inside. Of course, this is only one scenario of many that it could be, but I think it would be a good place to start.

I think CanuckPB hit it on the head.

Anyone who drives a Ford with that old ECM should have a spare in the glove box. A little expensive, but, an easy update is to install an MSD ignition. If it ever went bad it reverts back to a traditional ignition unlike a Mallory ignition system. The Mallory is almost a duplicate of Ford's system.

Good luck......
