Question Stop leak in system, problems

I added a container of Bar's Leaks Golden Seal radiator stop leak to my cooling system due to a small radiator leak. After about 15 minutes of driving my oil light came on, the temp gauge went into the red and the engine ran rough. After it cooled it was fine for about 10 minutes of driving then did the same thing again. The coolant reservoir is at the corect level. Will stop leak cause this and can it be cleaned out?

my guess is that you put it in while it was hot and now it clogged the thermostat up

thats my guess

but did it work on the leak?

If it were bad enough to clog the thermostat up, it could easily be clogging the radiator passages. That stuff can be dangerous - hopefully you followed the instructions to the letter.

I would try flushing your system to get rid of it. If you still have the leak, find another way to fix it like pulling the radiator and bringing it to a shop to get the pin-hole leak repaired.

Thanks for the replies. The only good thing is that it did stop the leak. I flushed the system but it didn't help. Maybe I should try a different flush?

Next time try adding some pepper to the radiator. Really.

Take care,

My best guess and that of my mechanic is that the radiator is partially blocked. Looks like I'll go ahead and spend about $235 tomorrow for a new one. That's the best local price, same at Autozone and O'reilly's. The truck has 155,000 miles with no major problems, still not a bad deal.
