4.6 Problems?
4.6 Problems?
I am running at about 160 miles to a full tank of fuel? That seems way low to me any one with a 4.6 want to help me with this?Is it me or is it low.Its an 05 with 1000 miles on it and it just seems to get slower and burn more fuel every time I start it.
This has got to be the first pick up I have owned with no pick up.Mash the gas from a stop and just about any thing can walk away from me.I know this is no mustang but geezzz.I have an Xcal2 on the way to see if it will help.It gets no better as rpms go up either. The dealers around here are worthless and I see me getting some BS story at the dealer about this.

2000 4.6 XLT 2x4 supercab A/T 62000 miles. Not sure what I'm getting per/tank, but I do know that half a tank of gas usually lasts me for a pretty long time. I can take a 45 minute trip home from college, drive around a little bit, then back to college on a litte more than a quarter tank. Thats about 110 miles total, but 103 of it is all highway. So thats about 412 miles a tank, I guess. 87 octane as well (can't afford anything better). Yea, you got trouble.
And just so you don't feel totally depressed........I'll give you some REAL world #'s.........
My '98 running PERFECTLY gets about 270-280 around town and about 340-350 on the freeway. Assuming about 21 gallons to a fillup here's the math........
280 divided by 21 = 13.33mpg
350 divided by 21 = 16.67mpg
Those gettin' over 350 to a tank are in the newer trucks w/ larger gas tanks *and* are running with the wind to their backs doin' 65mph drafting behind an 18 wheeler.
FWIW, I had our local body shop do some work to my Camry and I noticed he traded in his '02 F150 Scab for an '05 F150 Screw and I asked him how he liked it.........his exact words were......"About as much as the '02 Scab......13MPG!!!"
So, yes, you should be getting more than 160miles to a tank (something's definitely wrong) but if you end up beween 13-15mpg, then you're right on target!!!

4.6 milage
On my 97 4.6 5 speed 4x4, has the 8 foot box, so in 97 that meant a 30 gallon tank, that is why I get 360 to 400 miles out of tank. So real world milage is around 16-17 in summer, and 14-15 winter. Now this is mostly country, but some city driving, taking it fairly easy on the go pedal.
I see so many people with under inflated ties, you know that acoounts for bad milage, not to mention dirty air filter etc. Keep it tuned up, tires inflated and easy on the gas pedal, and even an automatic should get between 13 and 15 under average driving.
