Say you have only 1000 miles on the truck? I'd be takin it back to the dealer where I bought it. If you have a 25 gallon tank, your only gettin about 6.5 MPG

THAT SUCKS

Especially since the gas is SOOO CHEAP!

I'd say you should get better than that if you held the pedal on the floor everywhere you went.

I can't believe how many people are getting bad gas mileage! I drive an 02 S-crew FX4 w/ 4.6L engine. I average about 360-380 miles per tank. I fill up when the gauge hits "E," with about 21 gallons of fuel (87 octane).

360 mi / 21 gal = 17.14 mi/gal minimum

How do you like your xcal2 on your 4.6? I'm going to get it by the end of the year for my 05 4.6. Do you run the 87 or 93 tune? Is the 87 noticeable on the 4.6? Sorry for the thread jack.

find a different dealer like in the next town doesnt have to be the one u went to if not call ford and fill out a complaint form about that dealer and u could get their license revoked and whatnot or get them closed down mostly likely the service manager will get fired

its awsome. I love my truck because of it, I feel confident pulling out in traffic and I love those passing gears it throws.

Why would you be mashing the gas from a stop with only 1000 on it anyways?
Did you lease it and your driving it like you stole it? These '04's and '05's have
(unfortunately) the lame Electronic Throttle Control and useless computer that learns how you drive crap on them. ( don't ask me why the folks in charge at Ford let those things go into production but they did )
You got to take off with a firm foot ( not mashed foot ) from a start and let it
do it's own thing through the shifting and after you've gone through all the gears you can hit it ( like you want to pass ) and get the computer to shift
as if it actually had a direct link to the throttle ( like in reality it should ). You do that for a 1000 or so and it learns not to lag out on you and gives you better shifts and better mileage.
You can disconnect your battery, then follow the steps in your manual to reset the computer and then try re-teaching it and see what happens. unless your chip comes in soon then it really shouldn't matter since the chip should wake it up, or a reflash from a stealership, otherwise you have to teach it. This method was taught to me by a long time friend who is a Ford mechanic
for 25 years who I complained too about the trucks I was test driving and their poor performance at that time.. He told me not too worry, to do what he said, and I bought my truck without even test driving it, followed his instructions and my '04 4.6 runs awesome, no lag and excellent mileage... good luck ..............

I have a 97 f-150 4x4 with a 4.6. It has a 4 inch susp. lift, 33" boggers, and 114,000 miles, and i'm still gettin about 14.5 m.p.g. Your local Ford dealer should fix your problem under warranty as long as you don't have anything to void your warranty such as certain aftermarket perfdormance parts.
