K&N return on warranty

Anyone ever have to return there K&N on warranty?? my rubber gasket keeps
pulling up, but my local Autozone where I bought it wont let me return it to them
& said it must be sent into K&N.. Well I dont have the reciept anymore, anyone else return there's without a reciept?? Also I noticed there is a new design for
the filter for my truck, it is longer & has a cone nose, any idea why??

I ran a bead of "Goop" around the rim when the rubber gasket came off of mine.... That was only 6 months after getting the filter. I've had it over 4 years total now...

As far as the cone goes, the paper filters have them... My thinking is that it helps the incoming airflow move around the end of the filter better?? Mine does not have one, but the original paper filter did...

Good luck!

Well there warrany disclaimer says you must have the reciept, called them anyway they said they only need a # off the mold & that would be the proof of claim & they'll just send a new one.. Glad to hear the stand behind there warranty. I have super glued mine before but it has come up again, I just figure if they have a million mile warranty I shouldn't have to mess with it, plus maybe the new deisng flows a little better, that would be nice

That's great that they are going to work with you on it... What about shipping cost?? How long is it going to take to get a new filter??

Super Glue is not the same stuff that this "Goop" stuff is..... I don't know 'what' it is, but it sticks to just about everything and holds like stink! It's not a liquid like SG is... It's more like RVT stuff and if I were to try to remove the rubber gasket now, it would destroy it!

Got to decide what is 'easier' to deal with.... Yes, warranties are there for a reason and should be used when the part has physically failed. Not that this is even the same situation, but just what I have decided in the past when having to deal with a warranty issue...

When my Gibson muffler 'failed' (internal baffle came loose and rattled) I could have taken the time to have the muffler removed, ship it to Gibson (at my cost). Have them determine if they would even warranty it. Then they would have just sent me another POS Gibson muffler! All the while, what do I do for a muffler on the truck while this is going on? I just bought a new muffler and it was a done deal... No more POS Gibson and I was out the door in less then an hour. My trailer has had some minor things wrong with it. Mostly fit and finish stuff.... Nothing a screwdriver could not fix... Even had a plumbing problem that I did take it back to the dealer to have fixed under warranty... Well, since they just fixed the problem back to it's original design, it just broke again.... So, it took almost a week for them to replace the P trap on the shower, only to have it break again anyway.... I fixed it in less then an hour, including the time to go out and get the part and it's been fine ever since.... I was even camping at the time!!

Anyway, you most certinally have a legit claim and if it's better for you to send it back, that's the thing to do....

Actually I'm very impressed with K&N they dont even require you send it back, they get a # of the filter for the proof of purchase, & they just send a new one.. Right when I gave the # he knew what it was for F-150 he said just about every one of those K&N's have the same problem with the gasket we do, I asked if they have fixed the problem & he said yes, so I say if you have had the
same problem, get yourself a new one, K&N was very good to work with, no complaints...

Humm..... Very interesting..... I would have 'bet the farm' that you would have to send the original one in first....

Now that is a deal you can't pass up! I think I even have my original receipt!

Thanks for the info!!

I thought the same... You got to figure these things sale for around $55 - $60, heck they probably make them for $2-$3 bucks (of course I dont know for sure) it's probably not a big deal to them, & are more interested in making there customers happy, wish more business were interested in doing the same..

With a problem affecting such a large number of products, they are easy going about it, but I bet they are keeping track of the a unique number (serial ?) on the filter to prevent me from calling in with the same number.
