Brand New Truck ... What Octane To Use?

Ok, just got the keys to my brand new F150 Lariat SCrew 5.4L w/3.73rear.

I have never owned a new vehicle and I want to know what your thoughts are about ocatane in fuel. I have heard conflicting stories from people who swear by the 91/93 and others who say that its all just a marketing gimmick and still others who say that because of todays computers in the engine it makes absolutely no difference.

I just want to do it right from day one...

The trucks are tuned to run on 87 octane and it is my belief that anything more is just wasted. Now, if you use an aftermarket tuner that tunes your engine for higher performance and it is set up for higher octane, then that is the octane you use.

I concur 100%

Anything higher than what your truck is currently tuned for is a waste.

Ditto -- the only reason I would consider using another octane is if I was having a performance problem (pinging, etc.) with the 87. Then I would try a different octane just to see if it corrected the issue.

I have to agree if your truck is stock and not been reprogrammed to run with a higher octane, use 87. You are not getting any benefit, not a cleaner engine, not more horsepower, not better detonation, from using higher octane gas if truck is not tuned for it. Just wasting money.
