i want 14s
it would be quite easy to get your 4.6 standard cab truck to 14.9. As far as which motor would make more power a 5.4 in stock and even more so in built form would make more power. Keep in mind that we are not talking about light racing cars here. These are heavy trucks that need alot trq to get them moving and a 5.4 has alot more than a 4.6 any day with or without mods. And about 4.6 spooling faster, the difference would not be noticable with the power levels, cams and speed of these trucks. And as far as the auto debate, a stick 4.6 would get killed by a 5.4 auto. shure the stick takes less power to run than an auto, and yes they are lighter, but the auto multiplies trq. and again given the weight of these trucks i would take the auto.

can u prove anything u said??
theres really only about 40lbs different between the manual and automatic tranny's
can u prove anything u said??
yes the 4.6l has less power but it reachest its power quicker due to it being a short stroke motor. thus makin the engine faster.
no offence to anyone on here but lightnings would be faster if they made a short stroke 5.4L the longer engine stroke makes the engine RPM slower to build.
meaning my 97 ext cab short bed weighs about 4388lbs

I don't know where MSN comes up with their numbers, but you have to take them with a grain of salt. Look at that one specifically: According to them, the supercab is SLOWER than the crew cab.... identical in every other way, you mean to tell me that a truck that weighs 600 lbs more will out-accelerate AND out-brake it???? No way, Jose. I'm sending up the BS flag on the MSN numbers!! Doesn't engine size have just a little something to do with performance??
Does the MSN site also mean to tell me that the engine size doesn't affect the fuel economy?? The only difference in fuel economy comes from whether it's 2wd or a 4x4?? Not a chance.... so an XL 4x4 gets 14/18, but the XL supercab long bed 2wd gets 15/19, regardless of which engine is in it??? I don't think so.

sorry but i disagree with the link you posted for weights.
i have personally weighed my truck and my 01, supercrew, 2wd with the 5.4 weighs in at 4980, nothing on that site is close to that. that is a real world number.
here is another real world number posted bt Raoul:
this is a regular cab, regular bed, 5.4 automatic 2wd.
find me a stock, regular cab, 4.6 with an automatic that is better than that.
go weigh your truck, that is really all i can say.

they posted manufacture specs for dry weight not fueled up with passenger. and yeh i know msn numbers were a bit weird but it was most realistic i could find for a super cab. and all the other numbers i had found for the 04's didnt list the engine. and gave lik 16.02 for 1/4 mile im like dayum what the hell their heavier with same 5.4L and they running better times...
