I have a 97 4x4 4.6 with 5 speed, XL package, with no tach, I believe the XLT package would get you a tach, auto or manual tranny.

 

You want a tach you have to get a XLT or higher trim modles or install one yourself if you go with the XL it all depends on how much you want to pay for a truck to get a tach which sucks as I think they all should come with a tach most cars come with tachs now days so why can't all trim levels of a truck come with a tach.
