5.4 with 4.6 rear end?
5.4 with 4.6 rear end?
Hi, I am seriously considering doing the 4.6 to 5.4 swap, I have spent countless hours reading what will need to be done, doesnt sound like a whole lot. I have 3 questions, how much will a chip cost? How can I contact I believe JMC said his name was mike and he burns chips? And My biggest concern about the swap, how will my original rear end with 3.55's in it hold up with the 5.4's tourqe? BTW I have a 4.6 windsor with an auto-O/D 4x4 tranny.

They put the same rear end in the trucks with the 5.4, so you'll be fine.
HI!... All 5.4 F-150's come standard with the STERLING 9.75 rearend. The 4.6/4.2 F-150's only come with the FORD 8.8 rearend. In stock trim the 9.75 is twice as strong as the 8.8. JMC destroyed 3 8.8's then he converted to the 9.75 and has not had any problems since.
You can contct Mike under the supporting vendors page, click on the website for troyer performance, find the phone number and tell them what you want to do, they will be more than happy to help you out.

Yes but add 1000 - 2500LBS of vehicle weight to that 8.8 and it will self distruct quite easily. MUSTANGS break the tires loose before breaking the 8.8. Put slicks on that STANG and dump the clutch a few times at a good prepped dragstrip and you will be picking up spider gear with a magnet off the track. The 9.75 spider gears are TWICE the size of the ones in the 8.8 and so is the carrier. I've blown up several 8.8's over the years. I have also managed to blow up a 9.75. Trust me the 9.75 is at least 3 times stronger that the 8.8.

It's all in how you use it, I had an 84 Bronco that I built a 351 for, the 8.8 held up, but I didn't abuse it, to bad.
But if you are going to be doing some hard core stuff then go with the 9.75 or the dana 60
