Starter/Battery question

I have a 2001 F150 5.4L and I have noticed it is starting to crank over slower than normal. I took it to AutoZone to test the battery. They told me the battery test out fine but the starter is drawing 155 amps. They thought the starter may be going out.

It was 113* out side today and I do not want to be stranded anywhere with dead battery or dead starter. The reason I went to AutoZone was to get a new battery for the same reason. I would rather spend $60 today than be stuck somewhere with a dead battery.

My question is, Is 155 amps too high telling me the starter is going out?

Hey there McNab, 155A isn't that much draw at all for an 8cyl engine. Some are as high as 200A depending on compression ratio. Check your connections at the starter, and your battery terminals. It wouldn't hurt to replace the battery if you still suspect it is weak. A battery can have good voltage, and can recover from a load test, yet still be weak in the cold cranking amps.
