check engine light on...Help!

I need to find out which o2 sensor I need to replace. The code is P0153 (o2sensor slow to respond).

Also do I need a special tool to change it or can I wing it?

97' F150 XLT 3 door 4.8 V8

Thanks,

Todski

The special tool is a socket with a notch cut into it to allow room for the wires to get out of the way. IMO, it makes the job much easier. I think the socket is about $10 or you may be able to borrow/rent one from Auto Zone.

Not sure about testing for which sensor is good - I ended up replacing both my front ones. Cost about $50 each. I was told it is the front ones you need to worry about, not the rear sensors.

tod when you check the code it will tell you which bank, bank one is the front sensor i believe bank 2 is the back. But they are easily to replace there is a tool to use if you need it I think autozone even rents it

P0153 is the HO2S-21. Upstream sensor, driver's side. Look on the exhaust downpipe before the converter for it.

Autozone will loan the socket for a deposit to cover its cost if you don't return the tool. About $10.

If you have a 7/8" wrench that will also work, otherwise just get the socket from autozone, I think it cost me $16 a week or two ago when I rented one, but they refund all your money back when you return it.

Luckily the post-cat sensors are not hard to work with.
