Motorcraft Spark Plug Model Question

I am going to put a set of plugs in my 99 5.4. I want to stick with Motorcraft, so I went to O'Reily and got some. My manual calls for an AWSF-22E. The parts guy said I needed these AGSF22WM plugs. I told him what my manual calls for and he said that they are the same plugs, their store just gives them a different stock number to cross reference to. I have since done some searching on here and found that they are indeed different plugs. Th AG has more threads than the AW and they will not interchange. Can someone tell me what the deal is? Also, should you gap these platinum plugs? I've been told not to because doing so will scrape off the platinum on the electrode. Any advice?>

I got mine (97 5.4L) at the Dealer ($$ too much). Parts guy said they have "reved" the part number a few times over the years, but same number to you and me. I know Ford is real sensitve to plug blow-out's and thought if I wanted the best chance of no blow ouuts, Id go with the latest OEM. I also did not use neverseeze, (not called for by Ford) Figured if the stock ones went 85K mi. , would never replace them again. Does Motocraft Parts store plugs = Motorcraft Ford Dealer ???? (Other the 3x the price) My 2 cents...

Oh... I also replaced the rubber boots on COP's. (about $5 each, but as described here, many "coil failures" were broken down boots arcing) It was such a pain in the *** job to do the plugs, I figure $40 could save me from doing it again EVER...

I got my plugs at O'Reily auto parts. I thnk they were $2.19 each.

I guess I won't know for sure what I need until I take the old ones out...

related note....check every plug that they give you for the part number! I ended up putting new plugs in the screw this weekend and lemme tell you I wanted to wrap a breaker bar aroundthe autozone guys head. I wnet in for some autolite platinums number XXX64, ended up with a box of XXX64's and XXX65's. Of course we didn't notice this until I had all of the 65's in the engine and of Fooking course I needed the 64's. Long story short I put 12 plugs in a V8 Friday night into Sat morning.

Oh yeah, I ended up buying double platinums because they only had one box of regular platinums in the house and the fool was upset because the WRONG plugs he sold me were 'damaged' because they had anti-sieze on them.

If you do a forum search on this I posted the same probelm. One plug has 6 threads and the other has the full threads. They both seat in the same position and it didn't make a difference on mine. I was told that Ford did away with the 6 threaded plug so they could use both plugs in the old & new heads.

Good luck.
