Sea Foam
Sea Foam
After reading extensively about seafoam on this site,
I decided to try a can in 5.4L with 56k on it.
I disconnected the brake booster vacuum, then started letting the line suck up about 8 oz of seafoam from a cup, about halfway through the 8 oz, the engine died, so I started it back up and finished the eight ounces then cut it off.
Waited 30 minutes, started her up. She started immedietely no hesitation, and no smoke, none, nada, zilch. Should I have not restarted during the initial phase? Would this make a difference? At that point I only had about 4 oz in her so I figured it'd be better to get it all in.
Would it be worthwile to try another can and control the draw better so the engine doesnt die? I waqs really looking forward to the smoke show!!!!
oh well. I already put the rest in my gas tank.

I tried a can of the "majic juice" today too.
I'm not sure I did it right, but it smoked (not too bad) when I restarted.
I ran 3/4 a can up the vac line, 1/4 in oil, and a full can in gas.
We'll see......

Per MSDS from the Seafoam website, the content in the can is:
Pale Oil 40-60% (Light weight oil)
Naptha 25-35% (Extremely hot burning solvent)
IPA 10-20% (IPA= alcohol)
Pale oil is a light weight oil, mixed with naptha, and mixed with alcohol. I would be very careful in using this with any frequency. Naptha burns very hot. It is going to be hard on the seals, especially valve seals. And the alcohol isn't doing anybody any favors either. If you suspect carbon buildup in the engine, use the industry recommended Techron made by Chevron. It does the job, doesn't destroy seals, doesn't put an oily film inside the CAT which can shorten its life, and all you have to do is put it in a tank of gas before changing the oil. Run that tank out and then change the oil so the garbage goes out with the old oil.

at the ford place they just get a hose and connect it to the rear PCV inlet on the intake elbow. and pour whats called B-12 in a funnel and i beleive rev the engine to about 3,000 RPM it cleans it out about the same as sea foam. my dad told me about a foam ford use to sell that u just crack the throttle body open and spray with foam in there till its full then let ti set for 30 min then start it up. and it cleaned the intake and heads near spotless. but it would clog up cas and whatnot. if the build up was really bad
So, IYO
worth another try, or should I just leave it alone...
screw it I want the smokeshow
got another can in there now

If you didn't have a large carbon build up, you won't get all the smoke.
Which is a good thing, IMO.
A lot has to do with the quality of the gas you have been putting in. The better the gas, the less carbon build up.

I gave the seafoam a shot in my 88 Camaro and smoked out my entire neighborhood. I drove around the block smoking like the car was on fire for about 5 miles. It was pretty cool but it didn't make a noticable improvement in the cars performance.
I got cosiderable smoke out of it this time, but not like a carbeque, which is good.
As far as performance, it feels smoother and a bit more responsive.
Just that little bit of responsiveness really has me wondering...
What is the X2 gonna feel like????

I have seen better results by running my engine 'til it reaches normal operating temp. Then, I let my intake suck up a can of SF while idling. Let it sit for 1/2 hour. Then crank it up. If it doesn't smoke after that, count your blessings.
I have a 95 satun i just bought till the f-150 is drivable agian . The t/b was gunked up real bad it made the pedel stick . I pull it off to clean it and the intake was gunked w/ a 1/4 " of oily goop . so i cleaned the t/ b and scraped as much of the gunk out of the intake as i could . now it runs better but when you come to a stop it drops to 500 on the tach and stalls . you have to drive it w/ 2 feet or keep poping it into neutal to keep it running . will sea foam work w/ this much gunk in it ? im going to go a check all my lines for blockage , i might have plug one when scraping the majority of it out .
by the way its a 1.9 L w/ a 160 k on it
