Code 0118 question

Howdy,

I was wondering if some one here might be able to help me out a bit.

I got a 97 F150 4x4 with a 4.6l V8, After replacing the alt, Not that it matters. I get a 0118 code.
I am using a Launch Creader to see the code. (I have never used it before today)

After reading the code 4 times it clears it, making it nice for me as I hate check engine lights. Problem is after I clear it the light stays off until I shut off the truck and restart the engine, at that time the same code returns (0118)

Definition of the code per the book and several online reference points leads me to the Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input.
If I remember right a high value is a defective switch ?

Can some one set me straight please.. This thing is driving me nuts, I got to fix it soon.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,
Emonster
