PCV valve

Time to replace the PCV valve, I have the anonying buzzing noise from under the hood. I went to the dealer to pick one up but they said the cost was $35!!! The guy at the counter said it was the right part. I thought it was too high, so I left . After reading posts on this board the consenus seems to be to get a Motorcraft PCV valve...but not for $35! Can someone give me part numbers of what I need? What was your cost? Should I replace just the valve or the whole line. I have 76k mikes, a 2001 5.4 auto.

Thanks for your help!
Rich

Damn... Sorry I don't have the part number, but my local dealer - Power Ford - sold me two PCV valves for $11.

Look elsewhere, or call another dealer, for sure!

Should be able to pick one up at any auto parts store for under $5.... The dealers part might have included the entire hose assembly too??? Just a thought...

Buzzing PVC Valve

I had a PVC valve that was buzzing - and it would groan when I shut the engine off. I went to Auto Zone and picked up one off the shelf - installed it and the noise when away. Just to be sure I wasn't nuts - I put the old one back in and it buzzed like crazy.

The one I replaced was the original one w/ 36K on it - it wasn't clogged. I actually looked like new. It was plastic - the guts were really loose. I can't tell, but maybe the the rubber seal got pulled off and that's way it was so loose and rattled?

Anyway it was well worth the $1.89 I paid for it.

My PCV valve was something like $4 Canadian, not sure the part # off hand but yours should be the same. Maybe they quoted the whole hose too! Seriously, yours is the same as mine, 2000 and 2001 so ask them again. Look in your owners manual to get part # if it's there, should be. It's something like EK-420 or something. If I can I'll get a #.

sounds like the dealer was quoting the price for the hose and pcv assembly. i replaced my hose because the rubber was soft and sucking shut.

The # was I believe EV-98. Saw this in the Haynes manual. Also Rich, did you test by idling the truck after it had warmed up a little and took PCV out covering the end with your thumb to feel vacuum? Try it before you buy it.

Go to O'rielys

If there is an O'reilys auto parts in your neck of the woods, they should be able to order you a Motorcraft PCV Valve. I went to pick one up at AutoZone, and they didn't even have the right one for my 2002 Screw. O'reilys had the original Motorcraft ones at their distribution center and could have it shipped to me in 2 days, but luckily I live down the street from the distribution center here in Houston, so I just paid the 9.75 or something like that and went and picked it up.

And if no vacuum on the end of the PCV valve then remove the PCV valve from the vacuum hose and make sure you have vacuum from the hose just to make sure the hose is not clogged up or leaking.

Yup, thank you for adding that, forgot as usual. Also, the # of my 2000 is EV-233. It also comes with a new grommet too, all for under 5 bucks. Be careful not to get dirt in valve cover, maybe a damp cloth to clean dirt. New grommet is waaaay better, more secure feeling.
