Post 1998 F-150 5.4L Cheap Mdifications

I have a 1998 F-150 with a 5.4L engine and I have a Stillen cold air intake with a K&N finler and a Powerdyne throttle body spacer and Flowmaster turn downs and I was wondering if anyone knows any tricks or cheap modifications I can do to get more power out of the truck with out emptying my wallet. Thanks

Try this...

Hi.

First, welcome to these forums. Use the excellent Search feature to find out stuff on just about anything you 'd wish to know.

Modding these trucks is not exactly cheap - you get what you pay for...

To start you off, though:

Ditch the TB spacer - worthless

Ditch the Flowmasters - not the best setup for these trucks

Browse to: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl

... buy an SCT XI Excalibrator with Mike's custom tuning - best bang for the buck

While you are at it, pick up the Magnaflow #15609 SI/SO catback. Pretty much the best exhaust for this truck.

Checking further, I believe you can get a combo that includes several of the above components in a kit. Check the website.

Good luck!

Cheers

How much do you want to spend???? Poer the throttle body and elbow. It will at the very least cost you a paddle sander.
Gasket match the intake manifold to the heads. Do a search on Intake porting and you should find some excellent tips on how to match the gaskets and tool suppliers. Next oil change step up to synthetic lubricants.

Have someone sit in your truck and fully depress the gas pedal while you look under the hood to see if the throttle is fully opening. Trust me, there's a reason.

Just make sure you dont go overkill with the zip ties, i did this 'mod' on my ranger and i guess i put one too many on and it snapped my throttle cable after about a months use.

Throttle modifications can be dangerous. I used an appropriately sized brass nut. Saw a slice down one side, slide it over the cable, then, pinch the soft metal closed.
