air pump removal on 89 F150 4.9

i had to replace the head gasket on my truck, so in the process of taking everything off, i saw the useless air pump setup. i saw that there was a tube about 1.5" in diameter that runs along the length of the valve cover and it has no outlets to anything, its just some type of silencer for the air pump or something. so i was thinking of getting that tube out, along with all of the other air pump stuff, including the pump itself. so my question is, is removing this stuff going to mess my engine up? and no, emissions are not a factor for me. thanks in advance.

I took mine off my stang with no problems. You will need to remove the tube at the back of the heads also. then plug the holes with two 5/8-11x3/4 bolts
