Replace oil sending unit

OK, so I have that problem in cold weather with my oil gauge. I have the new sending unit $10. The dealer wanted $115 for labor to install it!!! I see where it is and looks like a simple job. So here are my questions:

1. What tools will I need to replace.
2. Can I do it with oil still in the engine?
3. Do I need to put anyting on the threads?
4. How tight do a torqure it down?

Thanks!
Rich

1. A wrench that fits the new sending unit.

2. You will have some oil run out - I would wait until you do an oil change, if you can. Even then, some oil will run out.

3. Teflon tape.

4. Tighten it until it is snug, then a 1/2 turn more. Crank the truck up and watch it carefully - if it leaks, tighten it another 1/2 turn until it stops.
