What engine do i have?
I go to walmart to buy spark plugs and an oil filter. Appearntly there were 3 different 5.4's in 99. They all have a letter after the engine size. One has a z behind it and i cant remember what the other two have behind them. How do i know what one i have? I did notice that two of them took the same filter and plugs but the other one is different. I am asuming that the different one is probably the lightning.
Got to f150online home page. On the right hand side there is a "Resourse" colum. Click on the one about decoding your VIN #. Not sure if it will give you what you are looking for. At least, it gives you a place to start. Good luck!

What brand of spark plug do you want to buy? More than likely someone here can just tell you the part number for the plug itself rather than hoping WalMart got it right in their systems.

I would like to go with split fire plugs unless someone has a better sugestion. Does anyone have the part number for these? I did recheck walmart last night and saw that all three models took the same plugs but they only gave a listing for regular autolite plugs.
your trucks come with platinum plugs. Why is everyone so concerned with changing them unless they are having problems. I for one started having problems with mine at about 80,000 miles so I changes the plugs and wires and used factory 8mm wires with a bosch platinum plug but unless you are having problems or do for a 100,000 mile tune up don't worry about it.
Fords been putting in Double Platinum plugs for some time now.
Unless I remember incorrectly the service manual says plugs are replaced as a service item at 100,000 miles.
I don't know that I'd trust them to last that long but I do know Troyer Performance says "stock factory ignition components should be replaced at 36K-40K miles or 3 years in these vehicles, whichever comes first."
Troyer is refering to the coils, wires and plugs. Of course on your truck you don't have standard coils or wires so you only have to worry about the plugs.
On a previous vehicle that I almost wished would die, I had to replace standard plugs every fall or I'd have cold weather starting problems. When I put in Bosch Double Platinums I went 5 years before I had any cold weather problems. I'm sure I put at least 80,000 miles on in those 5 years.
I'd never use anything less now.
