True Flow intake on 97 F150 XLT

My dad has a 97 F150 with a K&N drop in filter and FlowMaster muffler mated to the stock piping. He wanted a lil upgrade to get a little more hp and torque and hopefully get a little better gas mileage so I suggested an intake. I stumbled upon a True Flow intake at the local auto parts store and was told that it was better than K and N, yadda yadda yadda.

I came home and got on the internet and found the site, watched the video comparison they did and was sold. I went in on it with my dad and installed it this evening. It looks awesome! The install didn't take very long and was pretty straight forward.

I hear a slightly deeper exhaust note, and feel a slight increase in power, nothing spectacular but yet noticeable. I also noticed that when I romp on it, I can hear a low swooshing sound, I think it sounds awesome, not too loud but at the same time, catches your attention. Here are some pics I took of my dad's truck after installation.

You should think about doing something like this:

That air filter is still being restricted by that little opening to the fender well.

Thumbs up

Lose the rubber snorkel on the airbox. I replaced mine with a 6 inch piece of 3 inch exhaust pipe. All the intake tube in the world cannot overcome that two inch hole. Pull the fender side of the airbox and you'll see what I'm talking about. Nice looking intake though!,,,,98

Thank you sir. I didn't realize the snorkel on the end was so small since I didn't take that part of the housing off. I will look into that and see if I can come up with any ideas my father would be ok with.

No problem, Ford tries to make them quiet, and most of us want them loud, lol. At least they make it easy to make changes,,,,98

Once the snorkel is off, and replaced with the exhuast pipe, you can put some foam around it to seal it to the fender. I just left mine open. I can take a pic of the air box later on, since it is sitting in the garage. I put my K&N back on a while back.

Alot of them are, unfortunately. When I bought my K&N, it was $195 with tax. Since then I have seen them as high as $250?? Guess they wanted to cash in on the popularity, and hiked the price up.,,,,98

Red face

Which intake would that be? My K&N was bought in 2001, and is not "dry rotting"??,,,,98

Actually it is outlasting some of the factory plastic parts under the hood?
