engine replacement question
engine replacement question
I have a 1999 f150 4.6. It has a pretty bad leak on the pass side head gasket and a seep on the drivers side. The Ford dealership thinks its a warped block so i'm gonna be replacing the motor. The shops ive talked to say a '99 4.6 romeo engine is the only direct replacement motor i can use. I have been looking at a 2003-04 VIN W 4.6 out of an Expedition with 5,000 miles that I would like to use. My question is: What all would I need to swap over from my '99 motor to make it a direct bolt in and would there be any other obstacles I would run in to with the swap. Thanks for any advice.

There are a few basic differences. Your engine uses coil pack ignition while the Expi motor uses COP (Coil on Plug). Your engine has an IMRC (Intake manifold Runner Control) valve the Expi doesn't. Your engine has NPI (Non Performance Improved) heads whiole the Expi has. Using your wire harness and the Expi motor could be made to work. Similar swaps have been done.
