Mobil 1

reading all the threads on what is a good oil vs what not to use there is very consistent theme. no agreement.

I have a 97 F150 4.6 with 125,000 and have used Mobil1 since 13,000change at 4000. Uses more oil than i think it should about 1 qt in 3000 mile. Have often wondered if I am wasting money

BUT THERE AREA NO DEPOITS IN THE EGR PORTS and ONLY A THIN DEPOSIT OF GREY ON THE IAC.

so clearly M1 does have at least on eadvantage. keeps the egr ports clean

You bring an interesting aspect to your oil usage experience.
In my opinion, you may have shown that the higher synthetic flash point of the oil has not found it's way, as much, into the exhaust as a carbon by- product in addition to the normal carbon produced by combusting gas.
I would think, also that your engine has run very clean with good feed back from the OX sensors, keeping the engine right on 14.7 target.
The oil industry has just recently changed one feature of there oil formulation to reduce by-products that affect the cat convertor life and efficiency. This change is in a direction that allows a bit more engine wear by removing/reduceing one of the additives in formulation.
It may have been due to an EPA requirenent that we never hear about unless interested in these things.
Ford 5w20 has also changed something in formulation.
Both 153 and 930 spec oil is on the shelves until the 153 is all gone. As I understand it the 930 spec is better.
I just changed my oil today and see the 930 spec. Went to Auto Zone and they have both on the shelf, to my supprise.
See, that unless one knows to look at these things, you never know about what is happeing to oil over the years of time.
At the same time, I hooked up a new oil pressure gage.
The results on fresh oil are; on cold oil, pressure was 87 psi. Hot idle after driving is about 45 psi and driveing about 65 psi depending on engine rpm. ( 02 4.6 45k mi.)
Well , no comericals here, just some thoughts

Thumbs up Synthetic oil

I've been using Amsoil in my 2000 4.2 since 200 miles, change the filters (dual remote) every 12,000 and oil avery 25,000. I have 88,000 on it now. runs great no problems. I did change the plugs at 70,000 trhough. seems the left side (looking in) burned down some. I also replaced the o2 sensors.

How do you know using mobil 1 left your ports and IAC clean? This does not have anything to do with what brand oil you use IMO.

Not EVERY engine gets clogged EGR ports or has to have the IAC replaced...and Im willing to bet there are guys running M1 that have had to clean their EGR ports and clean/replace their IAC.

Ulitmately its your choice, M1 is a good oil I am not knocking it. But I just dont agree with your reasoning...

all engines burn a little oil , so with an EGR there is a little oil in the exhaust stream that flows through the EGR.

M1 is extremely stable at high temperature with very little burning off.

I have worked on cars since before EGRs. All EGRs on my vehicles except on my F150 have had deposits, some have had oily deposits.
My F150 is the only vehicle that I have ever used M1, therefore I have deduced that M1 is the reason for clean EGR posts, PCV etc.

My Bimmer uses Mobil 1 0W-40 since brand new as factory fill.

And my normal oil change interval is 15,000 miles between oil changes. Even though the interval is so long, my car only uses about 1 quart every 7,500 miles.

My FX4 uses 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles, and I use Motorcraft 5W-20.

i've used mobil 1 since like the 4th oil change and i now have 130,000 and it has perfect compression, all 174 psi and uses one quart every 3,000 or so.i cleaned my iac but it wasn't very dirty and i've never touched the egr runs great.i'd never use anything else cause i saw how good mobil 1 worked in my racecar.and i also change it every 10,000 or so.i used a mobil 1 filter this time and its seemed to work very well.

I have used mobil 1 5w30 since around 70,000 miles. It now has 102,000 miles and runs great. I change every 4-5 thousand and it uses around half a quart in that period. No complaints here!!!
