engine missing

engine missing

My dad has a 97 f-150 with a 4.6 that has 180,000 miles on it. It started running bad about 1 year ago so we tuned it up. That helped it and ran fine for a long time. The mileage came back as well. Now it is running bad again.

I have read on this forum that the egr gets plugged and can cause this. What is involved in cleaning this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Take a look at this thread and it has some pictures that kind of show you step by step. It isn't too awful hard to get off, atleast on my 4.6 it wasn't. Also clean the IAC while you are doing it. The best way to clean the EGR is to take off the throttle body and clean where the ports come into the throttle body because that is where they commonly get plugged with carbon build up. Get a couple cans of throttle body cleaner and go at it with q-tips, toothbrush, etc. Here's the thread:

if your engine is "missing" i'd say there's a really good theif in the immediate area...call the cops!!...just kiddin'...zap!

lol. at 180K u might wanna check and see if ur coil packs arent bad
