4.6 by the years

Hey i was wondering if anyone could help me with what the differences are between the different years 4.6. What i have is a 1999 4.6 Vin W which is non-rebuildable. I was wondering what year engines will fit and what the differences are between a car and truck engine? Does it have to be a vin W and what all has to be changed to make it work. Thanks for any help Tim

Where did you get the idea your engine is not rebuildable?

The crank and heads are both junk and i don't see it pocket book friendly to rebuild it.

You have a 99 Romeo built engine. It is a non PI head engine. It has coil pack ignition. The most important thing to consider is that the Crankshaft flange on this engine has 6 bolts to hold on the flex plate. The Windsor engine has 8 bolts. Any truck or car engine will bolt right up as long as you provide the correct flexplate for the engine. The car engines use a different intake manifold that has the throttle body opening facing the passenger side where the truck faces forward. The accessory mounting points are all the same as are the engine mount locations. If you opt for a newer than 99 engine you will get the PI heads whch will yield a little more power. Around 11 hp and a wopping 3 ft/lbs of torque.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if a 4.6 with a cast pan and one with the steel pan are interchanable. Thanks Tim
