Lightbulb engine swap

I currently own a 1999 f-150, with a 4.2 Ltr. V-6, with a 5 speed standard transmission, and I am wanting to do an engine swap and upgrade to a v-8. Does anyone have any advice? Or is it a waste of time? Also will I have to change out the tranny too?

Only you can decide if it is a waste of time. If you want to swap for a Modular V8 then you will need a 5 speed from a 4.6. The 4.2 tranny will not bolt up. Oh, and you will need the clutch and flywheel from a V8 too. Also the PCM form a 4.6 manual tranny. Yours stuff not fit. If you go for it I would recommend the 5.4.
