EGR valve bypass

anyone know if there is anyway to cool the EGR or bypass it ? so that its not robbing HP or causing my engine to nock from high exhaust gas temps.. also my trucks idling a little low since the last rain i'll look at it tomorrow. probably IAC or TPS is dirty or going bad..

the egr vlv is part of the emsions control system and is tied to the pcm by way of the dphe sensor, if you rob one sensor from the computer, it throws everything else off......

The PCM checks the EGR several different ways.
It's hard to get around this without programing it out in software.
The EGR operates in the cruise range and light load only, never at any other time.

I didn't do it on my truck, but I did bypass my EGR on my camaro, it has OBDII same as your trucks.

To do this all you have to do is block off the egr passages, remove the EGR valve and the EGR solenoid. The computer will throw a code, so you will have to get it programmed out which I did.

And yes the EGR doesn't work at wide open throttle so it really doesn't help performance. I only removed it because I wanted to remove anything on my engine I don't need, mainly all emissions components(just more stuff to fail and/or leak on me) And the beauty of having a 96 or up car, is that the new emissions checks just require a computer scan. THerefore, if you program your computer you can run NO EMISSIONS not even cats and pass the test,
