Flashing Check Engine

The "Check Engine" light is on all the time. I was told that it was due to EGR code. The valve had been replaced, but speculation led me to believe that the lines need to be cleaned. However, when I punch the gas ('98 F150 4.6L V8 Vin:W), I'll sometimes get a flashing "Check Engine" light. I was wondering if my original diagnosis can still be correct, or is this something much more serious? If it is catastrophic, is anybody interested in buying a truck? Ha, ha, ha!

I have a brake problem too. Yeah for me!

Go get the code(s) read at your local auto parts store.

Write them down.

Come back here, and SEARCH for the codes or post them for discussion.

EGR valves seldom go bad. EGR codes are usually due to a faulty DPFE sensor or a clogged intake port.

Flashing is associated with misfire.
This is telling that the cats are in danger of overheating from raw gas not being ignited in the cylinder.
Do it right, scan for code, then fix.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get back to you when I have the codes checked out. Until then, have a good weekend!
