Marbles in the engine
You don't. The PCM controls the A/F ratio. Pinging has lots of variables, A/F ratio, compression ratio, octane rating, EGR flow, cylinder temperature, ignition advance, knock sensor, carbon buildup in combustion chamber, deposits on valve stems, etc.
You don't have any direct control of the A/F ratio. Some people try to fool the MAF or change injectors for different flow rates but 99% of the time the engine runs in closed loop and corrects for these.
Make sure the EGR is flowing and the engine is clean and that' probably do it.

well i will give some of those ideas a try and see what happens. i was told by a shop that i would most likely never have to touch the egr valve. well i guess he was wrong.
I have a KN Air intake on it, do you think that it is getting to much air?

Here is what you need to do. Check this link out. Your mechanic is wrong. This is the most likely remedy for fixing your truck. If it was alot/any of these other problems mentioned, you'd probley get a code thrown at you.

^in this pic. the IAC is the thing with the purple dot on it, NOT what is circled in red. Its got 2 small bolts that hold it on (8mm i think) and an electrical connection. Pull it off, clean the inside very well with throttle body cleaner. Use a screwdriver to work the spring back and fourth. You may end up having to buy a new one from Ford.

^now heres the same thing you were looking at above, just from the opposite direction pulled off the truck's intake runners. Flipping it over, you will see all the little ports that will be clogged with carbon. 4-5 cans of throttle body cleaner, Q-tips, and maybe a toothbrush will take care of all that crap. Before you start, go buy the three gaskets mentioned in the thread posted above--about 12 bucks total from Ford, + 3-5 cans of throttle body cleaner. Took me about 8 hours to do it, but if i did it again, about 2.
Your truck is fine with the K*N intake. Its Ford's crappy PCV valve letting oil get past and into your EGR grooves thats causes our motors to ping to often. If you need anything else, i can go out and take pics for ya, no biggie. Hope this helps!
