HELP Bogging and Back Fire and etc

HI I have a 99 F150 4.6 litre and it has serious bogging down and backfiring issue's and hardly any power, I have replaced the fuel filter , and the plug's and plug wires and both coil packs and a new mass air flow sensor and i still have the problem. the closest i have been to ever having it run normal again was when i changed the fuel filter for about 1/4 mile it ran okay and then it went right back to doing the same thing again it has had a full tank of 93 octane put in it and I just have no where to go from here. No engine light is on. Can anyone help me solve this issue, it has been a year and a half like this and no one can get it fixed i have had it to several shops , i should also say they it did burn out the right bank cataylic converter and i had it replaced, when it went out it was glowing red. HELP PLEASE

If it were that lean or that rich, it'd set a code. If its been in a shop, the standard sensor checks would have been made and the fuel pressure and volume would have been checked.

The fun unusual problems include the cam sensor installed backwards, plugged cat/exhast, or valve timing is off (maybe on just one side). Add CKP reluctor wheel positioning to that list. None of these would likely set the check engine light.

You wouldn't live near Columbus would you?

I'm in Dublin. Find a weekend day that's not cold or wet and I'll look at it with you. I've got pretty much everything we could need but now I can't get a truck indoors.

My truck has a pretty big lift on it. so i don't know if you could get it in a garage unless it is a large garage, but please pm me you information so i can contact you . I would truely appreciate it. I changed the fuel filter on it this yesterday and for about 5 minutes around the housing development it ran like brand new and then it went right back to the spitting and sputtering and back firing and bogging down while trying to accellerate

I'm wondering if you have a load of water in the gas tank. Have you tried acetone (7 oz to the tank) or a gas drier? Although I don't prefer alcohol in the fuel, perhaps that could be the problem: water in the tank.

You might try removing the fuel filter and draining some fuel into a clear glass container from the tank. Let the container sit; you will see the water in the bottom of the jar, or swirl the fuel and the water will be in the bottom of the vortex. If I found a significant amount of water, I would drain the tank completely, replace the filter and refill with new fuel. Condensation will tend to form in the fuel tank when less than 1/4 tank is the normal fuel level.

Good luck.

I just got done changing the fuel filter and here is what happened, i put the new fuel filter on and the truck ran better for just a little bit and then i drove down the road and it started spitting and sputtering and back firing again. How do you drain the tank because when i took the fuel filter off gas did not just keep coming out.

It wouldn't drain. Usually siphon the tank and use the pump to get the rest out. Or siphon and then drop the tank to pour it out.

I got your e-mail. I'll look at the weather this weekend.

Okay thanks, Let me know what works, I know that the truck driving it anywhere is a risk because it just doesn't want to go hardly at all
