Greencrew, not to bash Schaeffers new product but considering their other products, this barely makes grade for Ford specs. The Ht/HS at 2.6 is absolute minimum. It takes a HT/HS rating of 2.8 to get "normal" wear. And in their specs they publish Vis@100C at 7.5-8.5. Whats up with that? They are also showing NOACK at 13.86, surely this is published information and not real. Obviously, I haven't had any of it for test but by these numbers, it won't hold a candle to the new Mobil Clean 7500 which should retail for $2.50 qt.

If you've had a chance to review the performance specs for the new Mobil products, I'd be very interested to hear your opinion.
Specifically, how do the new 7500 series and Mobil 1 series in a 5W-20 weight compare to the good old Motorcraft product in the same weight? Also, does it appear as if the new Mobil 1 5W-20 is just a "re-packaging" of the old 0W-20 Mobil 1 product?
I noticed that these new Mobil products are already stocked at Wal-Mart here in my neck of the Houston area, so I'm sure most people on this forum will also soon have access to these products.

Here is a link to M/E in regards to the new mobil lineup. The 0w-20 is not the same formulation as the 5w-20, thankfully. It is a much better product now. Take a look at the MSDS on the Clean 7500 which is on this website. It is BIODEGRADEABLE and it is not toxic to aquatic life. When was the last time you saw that on a motor oil.

In comparing the Schaeffers to a national brand oil in 5w-20, both meet Fords specs
Vis @ 100C, Brand X- 8.3 Schaeffers- ? 7.5-8.5
Vis. Index , Brand X - 153 Schaeffers -158
Ash , Brand X -.87 Schaeffers -.83
HT/HS, Brand X -2.85 Schaeffers -2.6
Stable pour point , Brand X- -31C Schaeffers- -42C
Flash, Brand x- 224C Schaeffers- 226C
Granted, there is more to an oil than this but if you are going to pay a premium price, expect premium performance. Brand X is available at under $1.50. This is not the usual product line from Schaeffers, they usually make a great oil, this isn't one of them.

The Mobil Clean 7500 has the potential to be the absolute best oil Mobil Exxon has put on the market. Only real world testing is going to prove that statement. We can lab test oils until our computers crash but the real proof is in the real world, everyday driving that the general public does. Let me make a suggestion to you. Buy one quart only in the viscosity range of your choice, take it home and pour some on your hands. Rub them together. After you do this, then give me your opinion. I'll only give a slight hint, it's different. And that seems to be the common description from everybody that tries it.

Ok, I'll have to take the Mobil Clean 7500 seriously then. I understand it is 15% PAO. I don't understand what it is you like about it though. I expect you like what you see for only $2.50 ct. Will it be available in 5w-20?
Yepper, here it is. And note the diesel rating

Click on the 7500 and then on the5w-20. I just wish I had public domain info to share.

I've contacted Mobil (via their website) twice in the last two weeks looking for performance data on the new 5000 and 7500 series of oils in a 5W-20 weight. Each time they have sent back a brief reply that says no data is currently available to the public.
Kind of frustrating given the fact that the new oils are already out on the street -- it'd be kind of nice to know what they are asking you to buy!
I hope they hurry up -- I've been thinking about using the 7500 series from the get-go in my new Escape (3.0 Duratec V6) that arrives in the next few weeks...

The only thing that really jumped out at me was that the oil had a very unusual scent compared to that of most motor oils I have worked with. The best description I could give you is that it almost smelled like Go-Jo hand cleaner. In fact, I wish my hands had been dirty at the time, because I had the sense that the oil would have immediately dissolved any dirt or grime that might have been on my hands.
Beyond that, I don't really know what to say....?
