5.0 or 4.6 in a T bird or Mercury Cougar.

I have decided I want a hobby car, Looking for 95 up Ford T-bird or a mercury cougar, last of the rear wheel drives. I'm a die hard 5.0 fan, Not much of a 4.6 fan but in terms of quick performance gains what is the better engine to get.

I really want a sc t-bird or Cougar with a 5sp manual, but will settle for the best bang for the $.
I don't like Mustangs, But the above engines are the same, so what's working for you Mustang guy's/girls..

SC's are pretty neat, my brother had a 92, man those things can smoke the tires. I would get a 5.0. They make tons of 5.0 parts.

5.0 in a Super Chicken. I'm a mustang fan, but those thunder birds can be tricked out pretty cool like.

lonnie brown,
I'm pretty sure the Super Coupe has a supercharged 6 cylinder engine. I think it is a 3.8 which is a push rod engine like the 5.0.

dont know your budget but i have a suggestion.

how about a mid 90's lincoln mark VIII. You get the 4v 4.6 engine. add a centrifugal s/c and for under 10k you have a car that is sleek and fast, these car are very stable at high speed and the engine is rock solid, find one with 70k miles and pump in 10 psi, you have instant 400 hp. wont be seeing to many of them pull up next to you either

I don't like the look of the mark 7, granted, it is a hot rod lincoln, but knowing it is based on the T-bird couger platform makes me want the basic verson of the car, A crown victoria and mercury grand Marquis share the same platform as the lincoln town car, A Marauder would be cool, A mark 7 is for sale at a calgary ford dealer ship for 8,000 cdn, I think the year is a 94, that is a lot of coin.
I have seen a lot of v6 cougurs and tbirds but that's not what I want. will keep serching....

Car is 1989 with 200.000 km price is 7,000 cdn, Tempted to take it for a run, but I will not pay that amonunt of coin, and Yes I know in the later years the mrk 7, or mrk 8 changed to a more pointy front and 4 valves per cylinder, timming chains ect kinda scare me, I'm just a simple do it wrong fix it twice kinda guy., Hey, any one out thier have a first generation lightning? 96 or 97 I think ford started S.V.T lightning progran to compete with the chevy 454 ss (super slow)

i had a 95 t-bird with the 5.0 HO 302 i think thatwas the last year for the 5.0 in t-bird, pretty sure it to 4.6 after that. Man you cannot go wrong with the 302 tons of info and parts. Thatt-bird wasn't big enough to be considered a lead-sled (my 76 cougar w/460 is though) but it sure rode like one. I got behind a conquest about 8 yrs ago going to sioux falls, sd. and we made that trip in a littleover 3 1/2 hours. I live in kansas city missouri so its usually about 5 hour trip.sorry off track. 5.0 all the way

Quick Reply: 5.0 or 4.6 in a T bird or Mercury Cougar.
