PCV delete
PCV delete
not really a delete but i wanna put KN breathers over my PCV vavles i heard there are instructions on how to take them appart. cause i have a bad problem with stray oil gettin sucked into my engine fromt the passenger side line that runs off the intake plenum elbow. i've seen few stangs that did this. wondering if anyone knows how?
Causes I can think of. The PCV is plugged, wrong PCV valve, or blocked or open PCV hose so blowby goes back out the breather into the snorkel. The air filter is blocked creating a small vacuum in the snorkel pulling crankcase contents into snorkel.
Finally, if you run it very hard very often... at wide open throttle the intake manifold vacuum totally disappears and is almost exactly the same pressure as in the snorkel. This is also when blowby is the highest. Either keep your foot out of it more, get new rings and guides, or put a trap in the breather to catch the oil. Let me guess, you're going to put in a breather trap. Enjoy!

HI!... These MODULAR engine are terrible for sucking oil from the crankcase, back up into the intake trac. More so, if you run them hard up into the higher RPM's a lot. I run my 5.4 upwards of 5800RPM daily. I was getting a ton of oil sucked into, and staying in the lower intake manifold plenum and coating my TB and TB ELBOW. I simply removed the vacuum hose going from the D/S valve cover to intake tube. I then replaced it with a valve cover filter from K&N. I then installed a oil seperator between the PCV and the rear of the upper intake manifold. I have been running like this for about 2 years now and have 99% totally eliminated the oil getting sucked back up into my intake trac. Remember though, YOU WILL need a custom tune on your chip to compensate for the unmetered air entering your engine through the filter on the valve cover. IT WILL change your A/F ratio. It did on mine until I had MIKE TROYER tune for it. Here's a pic of my set-up :

Neal, That's pretty cool. Did you try leaving the PCV valve in line with the oil separator? Or do you have so much blowby that it overwhelmed it?
I wish I were young again, that sounds like a blast. I sure hope you're enjoying it, cause it won't last forever. Ride safe.

HI!... cantrma : Yes the PCV is still there. It's between the P/S valve cover and the oil seperator.

I'm from DFW, but I'm working in Oklahoma today. My Gallery 3 shows exactly what is needed to install one on a Lightning, but you will need a modified version for a NA truck. It's very straight forward to make. First, decide where you can splice it into the PCV line and get a level installation (note- Neal has his tied to the firewall). The lines are 3/8", so you need applicable fittings, connectors, and hose. The separator itself uses 1/4"NPT fittings on both sides. The bowl cap with O-ring size is in my description.
yeh i think i understand how they go in. i'll check lowes and walmart for some parts. lol neal uses alotta zipties in his truck. lol then again so does ford from the factory they juse cover em up with miles and miles of electrical tape:-p but hey it works.
thats a dirty engine compartment. but i went price checking found some 1/4 to 3/8 elbows ans adapters and walmart has those filters for about 12 bucks then all i need are some hose clamps and some tubing. prolly go to autozone or see if dad cant "aquire" me some
$10.00 worth of Air hose. I expanded it so it fit over the PCV valve tip and at the elbow I cut the end of the PCV tubing about 2 inches from the end and fit the air hose over that then put it back into the elbow. The engine compartment is dirty from too many mud runs.
