synthetic motor oils

want to get an education on motor oils??? go to amsoil.com I have used and sold amsoil products for about 15 years. The myths one hears in marketing petroleum oils are much like the myths by diet concoctions. Im not trying to sell it to you.....some knowledge and you can make a sensible decision on what is true and what is a down right lie.

Good luck in your decisions

Before you do your 1 and only post maybe you should have done a search on this board.

Amsoil has been talked about plenty on here, and even by folks that actually own an F150

Why isn’t Amsoil readily available in local stores if it so good? You would think the best oil on the market would be sold nation wide in all parts stores.

I think a person would have to go out of their way to find a bad oil these days. Even the cheapo store brand oils are a hundred times better than the best oils available 20 years ago. My first truck (71 F100) had a 5 digit odometer. It wasn't designed to go 100,000 miles. Trucks these days are just getting broke in good and due for their first tune up at 100K, regardless of the brand of oil used in them.

Regular oil changes are more important than what flavor oil you use. All manufacturers specify oil change intervals but not one of them will specify a brand of oil or filter. If you use 99 cent oil and change it regularly, you are within the manufacturer's guidelines. If you use $10 per quart zoot-oil and change it once every 10K miles then you are not within the manufacturer's guidelines and engine damage warranty claims can be denied due to your abuse.

Some new cars such as Camaros, Corvettes, Porches, have specified synthetic and they come with Mobil 1. The reason the Camaros came with synthetic is that the oil ran too hot for dino oil and it was cheaper to specify synthetic than it was to install an oil cooler.

I use Mobil 1 in my 00F150 and my 95MarkVIII but I am still skeptical about synthetic.

I won't ever buy Amsoil because of the way it is sold, which is like Amway with much of the cost going to profits of the people who handle the sales.

Any time someone tries to tell you they're not trying to sell you something -- they're trying to sell you something!

Well some news.
Owners book for 2002 page 289 under specs says Motor Craft 5w20 part number XO-5W20-QSP for oil. Page 286 says the same.
Oils have a specification that must be met for warrenty no matter who's oil you use.
99 cent oil usually don't meet those specs.
Take a look on the label of Motor Craft 5w20 at the specs.
If your oil does not meet all those specs, you can be turned down for warrenty.
You just cannot put anything in these engines and expect a company to accept it.
The oil spec is arrived at by life testing the engines in a lab, oil analysis to set oil formulation for that family of engine and to determine the change intervals. Same for filters, coolant and other aspects of parts life.
However, your free to do what ever you want.

Amsoil

I have used Amsoil and I have seen a difference, but did you know Harley Davidson will void ur warranty if you use Amsoil, cause Harley claims it causes bearing slippage. When you take ur bike to a dealer, he tests the oil and he can tell what oil you have in it, even if you have the long term warranty plan that you already paid for will be void. Harley claims the oil is so thin that it gets in between the areas where the bearings are a pressed fit, causing them to spin and cause internal engine damage.

Amsoil

That seems strange. I work at an auto parts store, and have been selling AMSOIL for 17 years. I know that they market, and I sell, oil specifically for Harley and others, under the badge of "V-Twin 20W-50". If the bearings are press fit (interference fit), how is it possible that oil can loosen the bearings? If it is possible, clearly the design specs called for too loose a tolerance fit. Last time I checked, V8 OHV cam bearings were press fit. Anyone ever hear that a manufacturer was blaming oil viscosity on a cam bearing spinning??

Info. for everybody on this subject: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...#Magnuson-Moss

SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil

New Motorcraft® Full Synthetic SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil is designed, engineered and recommended by Ford Motor Company. It meets or exceeds engine oil recommendations by Ford Motor Company and many other equipment manufacturers that recommend oils of this viscosity grade and quality. It is also certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API), and bears their "Certification Trademark." Other benefits:
- Improved cold-temperature performance
- Lower volatility for reduced oil consumption
- Reduced engine wear
- Increased protection in severe operating conditions
- Formulated for fuel efficiency

The Mobil1 0w-20 meets the Ford spec. It is actually printed on the bottle.

Because it's sold by idiot dealers like above. Come to clarksville TN, you can buy it at at least 3 parts stores. 3 motorcycle shops and one lawn mower shop. I've only lived here for about 4 months. Should be a few more soon, as I'm currently working about 6-8 leads.

Sorry you can't find it in your area.

UMMM, another wives tale, funny I have 2 harley shops selling Amsoil here, no bearing slipping.

The 20w50 motor oil is of the proper viscosity recommended by the owners manual. It not any thinner or thicker.
