2000 Lariat 5.4/Another COP story
What's up everybody? I have been browsing the boards for awhile now and thought I would post a quicky on my 2000 F-150 SC Lariat w/5.4. I started having some misfire issues a couple months back and due to the fact I no longer work at the dealership I do not have access to a scanner. Long story short I had MIL light on and misfiring and could not get in to the dealer without a weeks wait. So I did what trouble shooting I could and ended up replacing 4 COPS on the passenger side cylinder bank. Truck has been running great until about a week ago it started missing again.....damn it! Well I already knew what the problem was without having to troubleshoot. Had to wait till I had the money to buy another 4 COPS to replace the left side bank. Finally did that today about 20 minutes work in 15 deg. temps. Brrrrrrrrrrr and the truck is happy again. Some info on the truck, it has just broken 60K and I replaced all of the boots before going to the COPS. I tested all of the replaced coils and they all were within spec when tested but were still bad. I think if you could really heat soak them and then test you would probably see which ones were really bad but that really isn't possible. So I am thinking that these damn things have a servicable life of about 50-60K before they give up the ship. Now I just hear yesterday that my truck could possibly go up in flames, I am going to pull the fuses for the cruise control in the morning to be safe. Man I love to hate FORD
Just disconnect the deactivator switch on your master cylinder. That's all dealers are doing in the meantime until Ford gathers up enough parts to repair the 700,000-something units out there.
