coil problems??
coil problems??
I am so frustrated with my truck right now. I just hit 90,000 and am now having problems. when the last big rain hit, my truck started shaking and going crazy. so, i changed all the coils and the plugs. problem solved. and then when the next rain hit, it started all over again. i have made sure there is no moisture in any of the coils, and all the plugs look great. however, i keep getting a cylinder 6 misfire code. does anybody know what it could be. i can't figure it out and am about to lose it. any help would be really appreciated.
Check for a cracked plug. Sometimes they will only miss when moisture is present. If in dought, swap the plug with a different cylinder and see if it sets a code for that cylinder. You may want to swap the coil with yet another cylinder.
I have had the same problem recently too
when you replaced your coil on plug packs did you use silicone grease around the boot covers so that no moisture can get in agian?
open number six plug out agian and run some compressed air to blow out all the water making sure there is none left.. GOOD reccomendation is to buy some AEROSOL ELECTRICAL cleaner or die electric aerosol cleaner and spray it in generously and then use a non lint cloth or steel brush to clean around the plug well and the plug, then blow out the cleaner making sure none of the flammable stuff is left in there. while you have the boot off you can alsow make sure it is running right buy using a meter on it... it should have like 8 ohms running thru it when the two leads on the end are touched.
this is super frustrating - i know. i have been dealing with this problem the last two weeks, and using this method just NOW fixed it good luck

You may consider plug wires if you haven't already done so. And I recently had a plug boot issue after installing new wires (not the COP ignition): the engine developed a miss after a week, found #8 boot had come off the plug; reinstalled. A week later, engine miss again, #8 boot again; crimped the boot with pliers this time. No more miss.
During rainy conditions, if misses occur, there is a grounding of the spark. Make sure you coat all boots, plug and coil terminals, with dielectric grease to avoid moisture intrusion. But if your wires are OEM, 90,000, they are breaking down and are more than likely causing your problem.
Good luck,
Curt
