Question is it worth it?

I have a 4.6 in my 99 f-150 supercab 4x4. Right now everything is factory exept that it is straight piped and dualed out. Is it worth spending the money to put in a chip or tuner? I just want a little more get up and go. Especially when i am either taking off from a stop or when im doing 55-60 and i step on it a little to increase speed with out downshifting or when going up hills. Now it doesnt feel like there is anything their until it downshifts. I dont want to stick anymore money into it with pulleys and all that cuz im not out to win races. Just wondering if i will actually notice better power and gas mileage. Id like it to feel a bit more like the 5.4 that i wish i had. My other concern is...will i run into problems down the road with the engine/transmission/ect? Need some good info!!!

That is a question only you can answer. I have a 97 4.6 that I've put in enough over the years to get about 400hp out of it. That's the fun part, building it a piece at a time. Obviously there are easier and more practical motors to build than a little 4.6 but if you want power it can be done.

tuner would help but prob only bring you up to stock. whats hurting you is the straight pipes. they take away lower end and put it more top. throw an equalizer pipe and a couple mufs on and you should regain alot what tires are you running? if their over stock regearing maybe an option to. right now i have intake, my exhaust is si/do flowmaster 40 series and a superchips tuner. it does have alot more get up in it and at 60 you can push the gas and actually accelerate! i am running 285/75r-16s with the stock limited slip 3.55. i am thinking of regearing in the future but it works great for me right now!

why do I have to fill this line out now?

I don't want to win any races either, which is why I'm keeping my cats and will soon be getting a SI/SO Magnaflow catback setup. Increases power throughout the entire RPM range, not just top end. You won't be wasting money with pulleys. They also work the entire RPM range by slowing down all the belt driven accessories. A tuner would be a wise choice-good bang for the buck. So would an electric fan setup. So would an air intake kit. All of the above will help increase throttle response, but you need to make a decision. Spend some money on mods, or live with it the way it is.

Buy a chip/tuner. It's the best HP for the money. You can also sell it when you're done with it. I'm not a fan of the straight pipes either.
