Help! I'm losing oil from the filter hose

I've got a '98 F150 4x4 w/ the remote mounted oil filter. Recently one of the hoses started leaking on the filter end. The dealer wants $185 for replacement hoses ! A respected mechanic told me I could cut the crimping off and use a A/C clamp. Has anyone had this same problem? Anyone clamped the hose successfully? TIA.

It may or maynot be a good alternative but make dam sure you do it good because if the hose flys off, you have no oil pressure left and the result will be a lot more than $180.

I would go to a hydraulic hose shop where they make custom hoses and let them make up a set. Should be cheaper and better in the long run. Make sure you take the hose off for them to match up.

Good Luck
